Crates....where do I even begin with my dislikes...
Someone gets a new puppy, takes it home, sticks it in a crate to take the easy way out on the house training, which actually isn't the right way to house train the puppy in the first place, yet most people will tell you to "CrateTrain" the puppy... which is pure ignorance. Then you hear this "my dog loves going in his crate"...no, he just learned the routine and went in it on his own. Well my dog likes to get away from the kids, so he goes in his crate to escape...what...make the kids leave the dog alone.
The puppy has been delivered by airplane or car, to literally strangers to the puppy, then the puppy takes the trip in the car with its new Family to the home. This new puppy arrives at the new home very scared, gets a few minutes to play....then gets put in a Prison Cell, just barely big enough to stand up in. I think in most cases the Humans have no idea what a Puppy has gone through by leaving its littermates, and now living with strangers. The very last thing it needs is to be locked up in a crate.
A crated puppy/dog gets zero exercise, which is very bad for the puppy/dog and adds to the risk of Hip Dysplasia and is mentally very bad for some breeds, my breed being one of the breeds that should NEVER be placed in a crate. Some breeds are mentally fine with being crated, but never ever do it to a thinking breed like mine.
I will Never place a puppy in a Home that I think will crate it.
